These Wild Socks Will Take You on a South African Safari
Let’s face it: It might be a while until you can travel the world again, collecting fresh stamps in your passport and discovering hidden gems in faraway countries. South Africa, much like these socks, is a vibrant, colorful country. In fact, its nickname is the Rainbow Nation, coined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu after apartheid ended in 1994. There are six different colors on the South African flag—black, yellow, green, white, red, and blue—representing the coming together of many different people. To this day, more than 25 years later, it’s a more diverse nation than ever. South Africa has 10 official languages, and at least 35 are spoken in the Republic. More South Africans can speak more than one language.
